Dentith Files – 95bFM

Since early 2008 I have had the privilege to talk about Conspiracy Theories every two weeks on the University of Auckland’s student radio station, 95bFM. The topics are sometimes topical and sometimes historical, and pop culture references abound.

Find me every second Sunday being ‘grilled’ by Jose Barbosa sometime between 11am and 12pm on the Sunday Breakfast show. It’s fun with a capital `Q.’

(This post serves as a mechanism for generating calendar events on the sidebar of this blog.)

Thesis Deadline

Well, here’s my provisional timetable for completing the thesis.

4th of May – The ‘Curious Tension’ chapter (in complete draft form).

10th of July – Conspiracy Theories as Explanations chapter (in complete draft form).

4th of December – Inference to a Conspiracy chapter (in complete draft form).

5th of March – Conclusion (in complete draft form).

7th of July – Submit thesis. Celebrate birthday a day later.

To quote Ghandi, “Let’s rock on!”

Dentith Files – 95bFM

Just a note (as I tear myself away from preparing slides) to say that I’m back on the radio again this coming Sunday; usual conspiratorial time and usual conspiratorial channel.

We’re probably going to discuss compounds.

CCE – Critical Thinking

It’s that time of year again, the time where I point out that people like you (living in Auckland, admittedly) can enrol in my Critical Thinking course. This one actually seems to get to its maximum capacity quite quickly so if you are thinking about it I’d recommend getting in soon.

Also, there might well be a new and possibly exciting online component to this version. CCE has a new software system and I might be the lucky guinea pig.

And by `I’ I actually mean you.

Enrol or check it out here.

Dentith Files – 95bFM

Well, not so much a Dentith Files but a trip on the harbour with an associated broadcast live from the hopefully not-depths of the Waitemata. No idea what will happen, what will be said and whether anyone will be forced to walk the plank.

Or, indeed, whether bFM has the technology to make sure the broadcast makes it ashore.

If you don’t hear from me in a week tell my Mother I loved her.

The Dentith Files – Skeptics Conference Review

Well, that is, I would almost say, that about the Paranormal paper, except the conference version is likely going into the local Skeptic ‘zine, so its story is not yet (completely) told. Still, nice bit of radio; I’m especially pleased with the talk of Primes and Cephalapods; now there’s a Conspiracy Theory for me.

Next time (probably): Anti-semiticism, RadioLive and Conspiracy Theories.

The Dentith Files

Matthew’s just come from hanging out with skeptics, the New Zealand Skeptics, that is.

He presented a paper at their conference and from what he says it didn’t go down too well. In fact he was accused of “letting in the paranormal.”

Matthew runs through what happened and reports on the conference itself.
